How to choose billing software for a kirana store

Loose goods, udhaar, tiny counters and patchy internet — what a kirana store actually needs from billing software, and what to ignore.

Start with the counter, not the features

Most kirana counters have less than two feet of usable space. If the machine does not fit, nothing else matters. A 12-inch terminal or a tablet on a stand is usually the right answer; a desktop tower is not.

Loose goods are the real test

Half your sales are weighed, not scanned. The scale must be connected to the bill so the weight and price land in the line automatically. If a salesperson cannot demonstrate this in thirty seconds, the software does not really do it.

Udhaar is a feature, not a workaround

Credit is how kirana works. You need a customer ledger with running balance, a way to take part payment, and the ability to send a statement on WhatsApp instead of arguing at the counter.

Insist on offline billing

Basement shops and dense markets lose connectivity constantly. Cloud-only software stops billing when the internet stops. Offline-first software keeps printing and syncs later. Ask for a demo with the router switched off.

Ignore, for now

AI demand forecasting, multi-warehouse transfers and loyalty tiers. They are real features and one day you may want them. On day one they are noise that slows your staff down.

Every quote is written for your counter: the configuration, the quantity and the installation are all part of the number. Send us what you sell on WhatsApp and you will have a firm, itemised quote with a GST invoice — usually the same day.
